Holes [****]
I went to see this film with a little
bit of skepticism. I knew it was supposed to be a children's film,
based upon a children's novel. By the time I left, however, I had enjoyed
it immensely. The plot follows the book very closely. Despite perhaps
a few small plot holes, the characters are pretty engaging, and believable.
I would say it's worth the time and ticket to go see... and I'm usually
picky when it comes to what I consider a good movie!

Planet of the Apes (2001)
[****]
I really enjoyed this film, even when
I saw it way back in the theater. It's been some time since I saw the original
Apes movies, but from what I can recall, I enjoyed this remake much more.
Entertaining and dark in parts. An excellent story, remake or not. Though
I don't believe in evolution, just the idea of a planet peopled by apes,
with humans as a secondary species was thought-provoking. Always a joy to
watch. One of my favorites.
Serendipity [****1/2]
This film is by far my favorite Romantic
Comedy film. John Cusack is great in this film, and Kate Beckinsale's
performance opposite him is charming. Both actors have developed
a wonderful level of chemistry in this film. Excellent film!
The Towering Inferno
[****1/2]
I saw this 1970's film recently, and,
I'll be honest, after 9-11, it's all the more powerful. The film
is about an inferno (fire) in a ficticious 135-story sky-scraper. The suspense
was masterful! The thing that got me the most about this film though
is how similar it is to the 9-11 events at the World Trade Centers in
New York City. It brought back memories, and added to the drama in a way
the director could hardly have expected. This may well be the king of modern
disaster movies!
